Visualization is key to understanding the complex behaviors of neural networks. When we deal with millions of parameters and layers, abstract numbers simply don't convey the "intuition" of what the network is actually learning.

The Challenge of Scale

Traditional 2D rendering methods like Canvas 2D or SVG struggle when the node count exceeds a few thousand. To visualize a true deep learning model, we need to leverage the GPU.

This is where Three.js and custom shaders come into play. By using instanced mesh rendering, we can draw hundreds of thousands of nodes with minimal CPU overhead.

Force-Directed Layouts on the GPU

Calculating physics for thousands of nodes is expensive. A common trick is to run the simulation in a Compute Shader (or GPGPU via textures in WebGL 1/2) and only update the positions on the GPU.

Aesthetics Matter

It's not just about performance. The visual language—glow, transparency, color gradients—helps distinguish active pathways from dormant ones. Using additive blending for connections creates that beautiful "synaptic firing" look seen in many high-end visualizations.
